Dolenz is the latest alias from Neil Andrew (fka DJ Solo and Wriggly Scott), an established DJ and producer who’s graced a plethora of radio stations and labels from London to Dubai. Drawing influence from ‘80s breakdance films, science fiction and Eastern sounds, Hysteresis is his introductory beat tape and it’s an 8 track EP that perfectly navigates his hybrid of heavy hip hop drum work, saturation soaked samples and analog production techniques.
Setting the scene with the eerie spatial composition and title track, Dolenz delves straight into the low-slung banger ‘Steady Labbing’ before exploring different tempos from the slow/fast axis. References to classic beat sketch hip hop come thick and fast all across the EP with the two rap cuts ‘Rap 1’ and ‘Rap 2’, which find the producer teaming up with his longtime collaborators Toofless (from Sudan) and Muqata’a (from Palestine), cementing Andrew’s commitment and passion to hip hop as a culture.

Remembrance - wow... each part. Utterly, utterly perfect. Inspiring drums...
Strings Of Light pulls you in from the start, letting you know you're in for a great trip.
Joint 17 is another great track, smooth and funky and exploring around the edges of the groove.
Black Focus is a great opener and Yo Chavez is really nice.
Lowrider... mmm, the theme is bit retro for me, which is fitting - and brilliant playing, of course.
